Dress Code
It is the policy and practice4 of this school that all students must be dressed and groomed in such a way as not to be a source of distraction to other students and teachers.

A student's dress reflects their approach to studies; respect for themselves and the member of the faculty/staff; and their behavior as it affects other students.

Uniform information may be obtained through the school office.

Lunch Program
Hot meals prepared on site with cost being $1.50 daily. Lunch program adheres to local, state, and federal regulations.

Our Lady of Mt. Carmel is a Catholic School, whose faculty and staff members work as co-partners with families and the entire Parish striving to empower students to become more living conscious, and active in their faith.

Our Lady of Mt Carmel School focuses on proclaiming the Good News of the Risen Lord through teaching Catholic Doctrine, building Christian Community, and helping students acquire skills, virtues and habits required for effective service to others. The philosophy of our school is anchored in the belief that we are all created in the image of God and that we will find peace in knowing, loving and serving God and each other.

Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School is dedicated to maintaining high standards of education students in an atmosphere of peace, justice, community and respect for others. The courses of study allow the students the opportunity to acquire skills, knowledge, intellectual methods, and strong moral and social attitudes. It is our belief that focusing on these areas will promote the formation of our students as Christian people and allow them to take their place as active, responsible members of our world.

Mission Statement
Established in 1912, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School, Kdg. - 8th Grade, extends the Catholic traditions of our parish in Herrin, Illinois, by serving Catholic families.

We exist to enable students to become knowledgeable and active in their faith, to educate students academically, and to develop strong moral character.

We Share the responsibility of education the whole child through faculty commitment, family involvement, and parish support.

Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School provides religious formation, academic excellence, and asocial consciousness within a disciplined, caring and safe environment.

Entrance requirements
Children will be permitted to enter Kindergarten following policies upheld by the State Of Illinois an the Diocese of Belleville. The child must be five years old by September 1st. There will be no exceptions to this policy.

At registration, all students entering kindergarten or fifth grade and all new students must have physicals and proof of immunizations for diphtheria, tetanus, mumps, measles (rubella), and German measles. Any child entering the fifth grade for the first time after July, 1993, will be required to show evidence of having received two doses of live measles vaccine. Students who do not have these forms completed at registration will not be allowed to proceed with registration procedures until evidence of a doctor's appointment is provided. In addition, dental examinations are recommended.
