Herrin Community Unit School District No. 4 Herrin Community Unit School District No. 4, the largest educational organization in the community, serves approximately 2600 students in our attendance. Herrin community schools rank average or above in every tested category. Our quality of education is second to none. We offer special education, Title I, and gifted / accelerated services to students who have special needs. We're proud of a comprehensive educational curriculum K-12 and of our outstanding academic and non-academic classes. Herrin’s school system ranks well in preparing the community’s young men and women for the future. Graduates have made names for themselves as outstanding achievers in a variety of fields; as leaders in the nation’s businesses and industries, as international financiers and economists, as doctors, nurses, lawyers, teachers, engineers, as coal miners, law enforcement officers, laborers, farmers and many others. Herrin schools are continually in the process of improving facilities and programs. Technology has become a strong part of the programs at all levels of education in the Herrin schools. Computers are available in all attendance centers. Both the middle school and the high school have well equipped computer labs. Construction of a new elementary school and renovation of our Middle school totaled $6.5 million. Our new High School will opened in the Fall of 2002 with the most technology possible at a cost of nearly $14.6 million and will have a high-tech security system, 5 computer labs as well as a minimum of 2 computers and a computerized phone in every classroom, and a computerized lightboard.
